Iyengar Practice

We practiced Iyengar yoga during class, and I found it pretty interesting. For me, the practice itself was very slow paced. Lots of explaining, demonstrating, starting and stopping again. Poses are mostly sustained rather than changing quickly, and it just felt pretty painstaking for my taste. I did not feel that the poses presented any particular challenges that excited me, and I feel weird about the use of props. I have never used props before in a yoga class, and it was clear that Iyengar is very dependent on them. Something about doing cool things with your body without the help of extra instruments is more exciting to me than using props to help.
Regardless of my personal preferences and feelings about the practice, I am glad to be gaining these experiences in different areas of yoga that contrast so much. Having these specific practices in class is helping me to learn about them and relate them back to our class discussions.
